Finally Holding Their Own Bible

For many believers in rural Tanzania, receiving a Bible is the beginning of a life transformed by God’s Word.

There was great celebration in the village of Kemange in northern Tanzania as 112 participants gathered to graduate from their Project Philip Bible study groups. The day was filled with singing, dancing, worship, and joyful thanksgiving as families and local churches came together to celebrate what God had done.

But the most emotional moment came when each participant received their very own Bible.

For many people in rural Tanzania, owning a Bible is simply unaffordable. Families often struggle to provide daily necessities, leaving little opportunity to purchase Christian resources. Yet through Bible League’s Project Philip ministry, people are not only learning about Jesus in small relational Bible study groups—they are also receiving God’s Word to continue growing in their faith.

Many participants held their Bibles tightly as they received them, overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. For some, it was the very first Bible they had ever owned. What began as a small Bible study had now become the beginning of a lifelong journey with God’s Word.

Through Project Philip, local believers in Tanzania are helping entire communities engage with Scripture in a simple and personal way. Small groups meet in homes, churches, schools, and villages where participants can ask questions, learn together, and discover the hope found in Jesus Christ. Many graduates later go on to start Bible study groups of their own, helping the Gospel spread even further throughout their communities.

Stories like this are a reminder that when people are given access to God’s Word, lives are transformed.
