Raising Leaders from the Margins of Bogotá
In Usme, Yeison and Adriana lead a ministry of love in a forgotten, struggling community.
In Usme, one of Bogotá’s most vulnerable neighborhoods, life is shaped by hardship. Addiction, violence, and illiteracy are part of everyday reality, and many families are broken or absent altogether.
It is here that Pastor Yeison and his wife Adriana are faithfully serving—bringing hope to those often forgotten.
“We’re surrounded by addiction, violence, and illiteracy,” Yeison shares. “Many of our kids don’t go to school. Some are raised by grandparents because their parents are gone or in prison.”
Yet in the midst of this brokenness, something powerful is happening.
Every Saturday, Yeison and Adriana’s team welcomes more than 100 children—offering meals, games, and Bible lessons that introduce them to the love of Christ. Their ministry even extends beyond their neighbourhood, as they hike to a nearby area called El Túnel to share the Gospel outdoors.

“The Bible League material makes it possible,” Adriana says. “Kids remember the lessons because they’re learning with joy.”
And lives are changing. Young people who once caused disruption are now stepping into leadership.
“They used to say, ‘I won’t write at school, why would I write here?’” Yeison recalls. “But now they bring the new kids in and help them with their work.”
Adriana has seen that transformation firsthand, especially among the youngest children and their mothers. “I’ve seen toddlers grow into readers and leaders,” she says. “Some of our kids couldn’t even read at 12. Now, they’re reading God’s Word and leading others.”
Through consistent discipleship and training, a new generation is being raised—one grounded in God’s Word and equipped to lead.
“These kids aren’t the church of tomorrow—they’re the church of today,” Yeison says with joy.
In a place often overlooked and forgotten, God is raising leaders—transforming lives, restoring dignity, and building His Church from the margins.
