Finding light at the end of a tunnel
Forced to marry an older man at the tender age of 15, Cathreen’s life in Zambia was full of despair. When her husband later left her, she was forced to support her children with no job or education.
“I thought that was the end of everything and I had lost hope,” Cathreen says. “I hated my family for having betrayed me by marrying me off as a teenager. I had a tough time supporting my two children with basic needs. I could not see any light in my life.”
When her neighbour mentioned there was a literacy class taking place at the local church, Cathreen jumped at the opportunity to learn how to read and write.
“Looking at my past life and how I lost the opportunity to learn, I took this Bible-based Literacy class as a privilege and registered,” she says. “This is how I came to know about Bible League and its programs.
“Bible League has been the light at the end of the tunnel. Reading and discussing the Word of God together as a class, led me to accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.”
The Bible-based Literacy program has changed Cathreen’s life in more ways than one, thanks to her new reading and writing skills. She has found employment and is able to provide for her young family.
“This has made my life easy, and my family is also proud of me since I’m also contributing to the well-being of my family,” she says. “At the community level, I’m actively involved in the church supporting ministry work with children.”
Cathreen has also found healing from her past trauma and has been able to forgive, and move forward in her life.
“All thoughts of disappointments, regrets, torture, and grief are all gone because I have found Jesus Christ,” she says, smiling widely. “I now feel the love of God in my life. I have found peace, joy, love, and happiness.”
Cathreen has a heartfelt message to share with supporters of Bible League; “I would like to say thank you so much Bible League for the initiative and support you gave to me and the entire community. I would further like to thank all the people involved in this noble cause of changing people’s lives. The most exciting part is that I can read the Word of God for myself and even share with others in the community.”
