Over 9,800 men, women and youth fill prisons in New Zealand. Many more are part of the Corrective Services system. God loves each one, but many don’t know Him. We work with prison Chaplains to take the Word of God into prisons, so inmates can be set free in Jesus name!

Andrew*, an inmate shares: “Things started out really bad for me when I first got here. When I was a much younger man and on the outside, I thought I had everything figured out — that I knew it all. Later on, I saw that it wasn’t so. When my mother died, and I went to live with my grandparents, my life took a dramatic turn.

“When my mother wasn’t around anymore, I realised something really fast. It turns out that mum’s do know what is best,” he admits, shaking his head. “Drugs and alcohol had become my best friend until my prison chaplain came into my life.

I realised really quick after I started attending an anger management class that I’d probably need to be seeing a chaplain at least once a week,” he says, describing his early days after his conviction. “Later I had my anger issues in check, and I finished the course and got my certificate, but I was still pretty rough around the edges.

“I wasn’t ready for any kind of a next step. Then I started meeting with my chaplain and he became my rock.

“My parole officer had been in the military and seen a lot, and I could identify with him, but my chaplain was a whole different story. When he told me his life story I was stunned, he had been through so much and I realised wow if God can do a miracle in his life He can do one in my life too!” Since then, even though still in prison, Andrew has continued following Jesus and is now part of the team that ministers to other inmates.

With your help and partnership we can work with God in what He is doing amongst this people group.  Donate today and setting prisoners free.
