Mexico is tragic at the moment. An earthquake of magnitude 8.1 hit the country in September and then a number of aftershocks followed. The Earthquake struck the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas worse than any other area of the nation. The region has around 9 million people living close to the epicentre. A hospital building collapsed in Oaxaca, countless homes have been destroyed, and thousands of people are trapped under the ruins of their homes in southern Mexico.
The magnitude-8.1 earthquake hit the Southern area of Mexico right when Hurricane Katia (A category 2 Hurricane) struck thousands of people in the North. Bible League Mexico’s Regional Coordinator who resides in Oaxaca updated us about his team. Oscar Jiménez said: “People from southern Mexico cannot currently leave the area because all of the access roads to different regions have been severely damaged by the earthquake, and, since they are still undergoing aftershocks, it is too dangerous. Thus, the most affected are still at risk and forced to just move to less impacted areas in search of security.”
Please pray for the safety of everyone in endangered areas and for consolation for the families who lost their loved ones. Please pray for God to give relief and strength to the country overwhelmed with loss and suffering.
Through your giving God’s Word will bring hope to those who have lost everything. Encourage the Mexican church today by planting Bibles and biblical resources.
The ministry of Bible League New Zealand is able to plant God’s Word solely through the generous support of the Christian community.
